How to Remove Polish Nail Strips Safely
To remove nail polish strips, soak a cotton pad in ordinary nail polish remover, press it on the nail for a few seconds to soften the polish, then wipe firmly downwards until it has all gone. Polish strips are real nail polish, so they come off just like a painted manicure.
What you need
- Ordinary nail polish remover (non-acetone remover is the gentler choice)
- Cotton or lint-free pads
- Cuticle oil for afterwards
How to remove polish strips, step by step
- Soak a pad with nail polish remover.
- Press it onto the nail and hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Wipe firmly downwards towards the tip. Repeat if any colour is left.
- Work one nail at a time.
- Wash your hands, then massage in a little cuticle oil.
If they're being stubborn
Hold the soaked pad on for a little longer before wiping. Acetone remover works faster but is more drying, so if you use it, follow up with cuticle oil.
Aftercare once removed
- Massage cuticle oil into your nails and cuticles straight after removal. More in our aftercare guide.
- Only buff lightly, and only if residue remains.
- Let your nails rest for a few hours before your next set.
Common questions
Can I use non-acetone remover on polish strips?
Yes. Any ordinary nail polish remover works. Non-acetone is a little slower but gentler on nails and skin.
Can I just peel polish strips off?
It is better not to. Peeling can lift the top layer of your natural nail, so use remover instead.
Do gel strips come off the same way?
No. Gel strips come off with cuticle oil and a wooden stick, with no acetone. See how to remove gel nail strips.
