The short answer: the biggest nail trends in the UK for the end of 2026 are dark film noir shades (espresso, brown-toned burgundy, plum, midnight blue), warm milky neutrals, velvet and cat-eye finishes, icy chrome and gilded gold, micro nail art, animal-print tips, cosy knit patterns and short, naked nails. For the Christmas do: jammy reds, gold and chrome.

2026 started soft: sheer nudes, pearl glaze and short shapes. It's ending moody, textured and a little bit glam. The 2026 colour trends: dark, warm and milky

Film noir: espresso, cherry, plum and navy

Stylist's autumn/winter 2026 report calls this one film noir: very dark browns, reds, purples, blues and greens. Susan Carroll of Young LDN names espresso, dark chocolate, chestnut, mocha, deep cherry, oxblood, smoky plum and almost-black navy. Who What Wear UK's lists add aubergine, merlot and midnight blue.

Brown-toned burgundy

Marie Claire UK's manicurist Mateja Novaković predicts chocolate brown and burgundy meeting in the middle this season: "deep burgundies with warmer, earthy brown undertones". Deep Merlot Burgundy is our classic wine red for exactly this mood.

Warm milky neutrals

Cool ballet pink is out, warm and creamy is in. Juanita Huber-Millet of Townhouse tells Stylist the defining palette is warm neutrals and coffee tones, such as chai latte, coconut milk and mocha. HELLO! names coconut milk nails, a sheer creamy white, as one of autumn's six trends. Try Nude Blossom (milky cocoa nude), Bare Beauty (milky off-white) or Timeless Taupe.

Moody greens and milky mauves

Olive green is proving popular according to So Shell's nail artists, speaking to Who What Wear UK, and Marie Claire UK picks out sheer matcha and sage. Jungle Green is our deep olive-forest green. For the softer side, Who What Wear UK flags milky mauve and muted lilac: Pink Aura is a milky lilac pink with a pearly sheen.

The 2026 finish trends: velvet, chrome and gold

Velvet and cat-eye

Jenni Draper of John Frieda Mayfair tells Stylist to expect velvet and cat-eye finishes in olive, bronze and wine tones, and Susan Carroll expects more texture that catches the light without being too glittery. These are the finishes that look expensive in candlelight. Try Emerald Twinkle (forest green shimmer), Rose Ombre (dusty rosewood cat-eye) or Galactic Noir (black with a shifting silver shimmer). Icy chrome

Chrome is still here, but quieter. Stylist's report describes chrome used to mute a colour and give it an icy edge, rather than full disco mirror. Our chrome and metallic strips include Molten Ruby (berry ruby chrome) and Rose Chrome (dusty rose mirror finish). For the icy side, Frosty Blue is a blue-grey with fine silver shimmer. Gilded gold

Metta Francis of Nails by Mets told Who What Wear UK that gold is big news this season, from full gold nails to gilded tips and gold accents, pointing to the Sergio Hudson and Chanel Haute Couture autumn/winter 2026 shows. Gold Rush is full champagne-gold glitter, Gold Dipped fades gold glitter from the tip, and Gold Edged keeps it to a fine gold line at the cuticle.

The 2026 nail art trends: small, cosy and a bit wild

• Micro flourishes: Stylist expects nail art to get more refined: micro French tips, fine metallic accents and tonal designs rather than busy art. Try Silver Lined French Tip or Midnight French.
• Wild tips: animal print on a French tip, says Stylist, while Marie Claire UK has a softer fawn print. Leopard goes all in; Nude Safari keeps the print to two accent nails.
• Get cosy: plaid, argyle and tweed to match your knitwear, from Jenni Draper in Stylist. Earthbound has a knit-style chevron, and Holiday Red carries a Fair Isle jumper pattern for December. We don't make a tartan strip yet, so that one's a salon job.
• Mix-and-match: Marie Claire UK says sets mixing block colour, French tips and art are growing. Neutral Harmony mixes four neutrals in one set, and Amber Bloom mixes rust, burnt orange, cream and chocolate.
• Bedazzled nails: HELLO! tips 3D rhinestones, gems and pearls. Our strips are flat, so there's no 3D version, but for a pearly glow try Snow Pearl or Rose Pearl.

The 2026 shape trend: short and naked

Stylist's naked nails trend is short, perfectly shaped nails with immaculate cuticles and a sheer high-gloss finish, and Who What Wear UK's expert Metta Francis describes the same short, natural, low-maintenance look. Good news if you type, cook or chase small children for a living.

Christmas and party season nails 2026

The trend reports above roll straight into December. Our picks for the work do, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve:

• Jammy reds: HELLO! names glossy deep reds and spiced cherry for this season. Glitter Rouge packs fine red glitter into deep cherry, Velvet Rouge is a true classic red, and Gilded Rouge adds a reverse-French line of gold glitter.
• Gold and chrome: Gold Rush for the office party, Molten Ruby for Christmas dinner.
• Dark and festive: Enchanted Forest (emerald with silver glitter) or Golden Ivy (forest green and cream with gold detail) if you'd rather skip red.
• New Year's Eve: Holographic Silver or Midnight Marble for the countdown.

What about early 2027?

We haven't found UK trend reports for spring 2027 yet, so we're not going to guess. What we can say: Stylist expects nail art to keep getting more refined, and Marie Claire UK describes the season as playful but polished. Our hunch is that short shapes, warm neutrals and subtle shine will carry into January, but treat that as a hunch, not a forecast. Earlier in 2026: the looks that started the year

Marie Claire UK's 2026 forecast, published in December 2025, picked bare bases, airy nudes, buttery pastels, earthy tones, subtle shimmer, cat-eye textures, refined 3D art, chrome details and short shapes. Most of those carried through the year and are now wearing their autumn coats: earthy tones went darker, shimmer became velvet, and short shapes became naked nails. How to get 2026 trend nails at home

1. Prep: shape your nails, push back cuticles and wipe each nail with an alcohol wipe.
2. Size: pick a strip that fits sidewall to sidewall without touching skin.
3. Apply: press from the centre out, just above the cuticle.
4. Trim: fold the excess over the tip and file downwards in one direction.
5. Cure: 60 seconds under a UV or LED lamp, thumbs on their own, plus 15 to 30 seconds for very dark or glittery shades.
