1. Chocolate and espresso brown

Brown is the colour of the season, again. In Stylist's autumn/winter 2026 report, Susan Carroll, founder of Young LDN, picks brown as the big one this year: espresso, dark chocolate, chestnut and warm mocha. Who What Wear UK's autumn colour list opens with a rich chocolate brown, and nail artists at So Shell told the same title that milky chocolate and mocha are popular this season.

HELLO!'s October report names jammy nails as a trend: glossy, jelly-like deep reds, bordeaux and spiced cherry. Dark cherry is on Who What Wear UK's list, and deep cherry and oxblood feature in Stylist's film noir trend. Deep Cherry is an opaque cherry red with a berry-plum undertone. For a bit of gold, Royal Rose adds gold foil flakes to a deep berry red.

4. Plum and aubergine

London manicurist Metta Francis, founder of Nails by Mets, told Who What Wear UK that rich, jewel-toned plums are the alternative to classic burgundy this year, and the title also lists aubergine among its dark colours for autumn. Royal Plum is a deep aubergine plum. For something softer and more office-friendly, Vintage Rose is a dusky plum mauve.

5. Midnight blue

Francis also tips midnight blue, a shade so dark it's nearly black, as a staple once the nights draw in. It's the chic alternative to black that still works with a navy work coat. Midnight Navy reads almost black, with a cool blue undertone. Teal of Approval is an inky blue with a dark teal edge.

6. Olive and matcha green

Green has gone moody. So Shell told Who What Wear UK that olive green is proving popular this season, Stylist pairs olive with velvet finishes, and Marie Claire UK picks out milky matcha and sage greens. Jungle Green is a deep forest green with an olive undertone, lovely with tweed. Urban Jungle is a soft sage with an olive undertone. One honest note: both are opaque, so if you want the sheer, milky matcha look, that one's a salon job for now.

7. Warm milky neutrals: latte, chai and coconut milk

Stylist reports warm neutrals replacing cool pinks, with creamy coffee, chai latte, coconut milk and mocha shades, and HELLO! names coconut milk nails, a sheer, creamy white, as one of the season's six trends. Nude Blossom is a milky cocoa nude, Bare Beauty is a milky, creamy off-white, and Timeless Taupe is the warm greige that goes with every outfit you own.

8. Milky mauve and muted lilac

Who What Wear UK flags mauve milk and a muted, autumnal lilac as the unexpected picks of the season. Pink Aura is a milky pale lilac pink with a soft pearly sheen, a pretty in-between for anyone not ready for dark nails yet.

9. Glossy black

Who What Wear UK's take is polished onyx: black, but high-shine rather than matte. Noir Nights is a jet black with a glassy finish. Prefer it softer? Midnight French puts black French tips on a sheer pink base.

How to make dark autumn nails last
