There is a moment in early October when the summer manicure stops feeling right. It is not imagination, and we can put numbers on it: comparing our own orders from March to September against October to February, two colour families reliably gain ground while the bright end loses it.

Why October specifically

Two practical things change at once. The light goes: British October daylight is flatter and warmer, and shades that looked crisp in July suddenly look washed out. And sleeves arrive, so nails sit against knitwear and darker fabrics rather than bare arms, which flatters depth over brightness.

What gains ground

Keep them. Pink still leads the whole year in our data, and a soft pink or a French tip reads perfectly well in October: it is the neons and brights that start to feel out of step.
